Battle Stars

Its been nearly a week since the Battle at Hastings IV went down and its honestly taken this long for my head to stop spinning long enough to write this post…

I’ve had the opportunity to put on a lot of skate events (50 or so) over the years and know all too well the curse that is “anything that could go wrong – will”.  From rain, to blown PA’s, bad turnouts, injuries etc.

This event though was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE.  Every element of the day was fan – fricking-tastic!!  A week of rain turned into a beautiful Saturday. A ton a rad skaters came up from the US ( including Brad McClain, Charlie Blair, Danny Tumia, Mason Merlino, Cody Lockwood and many more). Renee Renee took the mic, Vinyl Ritchie manned the tables, nobody got hurt and best of all – a crowd of 600+ people packed the place!!   The stoke levels were off the charts. The air was buzzing and you could feel it from the first drop in to the last. Mind numbing skating was witnessed and Mother Hastings did not disappoint.  We showed the world that Vancouver is on the map when it comes to world class transition terrain and riders.  I feel very proud to have been a part of making this all happen and send massive shout outs to both Supra Distribution , Ultimate Distribution and Concrete Skateboarding Mag for getting behind it and doing such an amazing job with promotions, obstacles, filming and prizing.

Also shouts go out to Cariboo Brewing for keeping us all properly hydrated! (burrrrp)

The Battle at Hastings IV !!

Battle of Hastings IV is bigger and more badass than ever!!
Boasting a prize purse of $15,000.00 cash, this outdoor [concrete bowl ] event is growing by leaps and bounds every year and is now the largest cash event in western Canada.
2013 also marks a milestone year as the event is a World Cup Skateboarding sanctioned competition.
World Cup sanctioning now gives big name skaters from around the world an even better reason to attend the event besides the awsomeness that Vancouver already has to offer.
There are some serious heavy hitters being rumoured to attend, however at this point I think it prudent to not make claims publicly and choose instead to let everyone be pleasantly amazed.
As always this event is free to watch but space is limited so arrive early.
Registration is now open. There are only 30 spots available and $15000.00 up for grabs. **All registrants are subject to approval**
If you would like to register a rider, please email INFO@BLVDSKATESHOP.COM

Josh Evin Memorial Jam 2013 – Aug. 06

Its time again for the annual pilgrimage to the Kootenays for the Josh Evin backyard bowl bash!  This event which has traditionally taken place in late June was moved ahead to August to avoid the cold and rain that’s plagued us the past 2 years. There’s nothing better than the Koots in the hot sun and we aim to soak it up big time!

So grab yer board, grab a tent and meet us there!!

Vans Roadblock 4 – Highlights !

Last Sunday Vans hosted the annual Roadblock contest on Granville Street in downtown Vancouver.

The premise is 4 shops are invited to build an obstacle and then our teams compete against each other one obstacle at a time. There’s a $1000 up for grabs per obstacle and although there’s no official “best obstacle” award – we take great pride in ensuring that we have it every year!

When the dust settled we were triumphant in winning 2 of the 4 obstacles with Langley’s Coastal Riders taking the other two.  Huge props to Blvd teamsters : Adam Hopkins, Des Hoostie, Conlan Killeen, Danny Hagge and newest member Adam Richter. The boys killed it all day!
